In order to participate in synchronized swimming competitions, all swimmers in a competitive club must be registered at the provincial and national levels. Synchro BC, the provincial association for synchronized swimming, sponsors swim meets, holds training camps and is responsible for the training of officials. Synchro BC governs the sport in our province, providing opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers. The programs include a wide range of PARTICIPATION, RECREATION, and COMPETITIVE levels to participants of all ages, genders, and skill levels. Synchro BC is a not-for-profit society with volunteer committees and Board of Directors.

The Canadian Amateur Synchronized Swimming Association (CASSA), otherwise known as Synchro Canada, is the national organization for synchronized swimming. It is a volunteer-based organization with a professional staff of ten. It is responsible for the development and operation of the sports' programs and coordinates activities in the ten provinces and one territory. It sets the rules governing the age of swimmers who compete at the divisional and national championships and assists in the training of athletes, judges, and coaches through its national seminars and coaching programs. It also assists in the operations of the divisional and national championships and sponsors the Canadian junior (13-15), Canadian junior (15-18), and Canadian senior "A" and "B" teams. These teams are selected each year to represent Canada at international competitions such as the Olympics and World Aquatic Championships.

The Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) is the international sports body for all aquatic sports. FINA produces the rules that govern synchronized swimming. This includes official descriptions of figures, scoring procedures, elements for technical routines, senior figures groups, penalties and rules governing facilities for international competitions. Canada has at least one representative on the FINA board. Board members are volunteers and sit for a four-year term. FINA membership is by nation.
